Poker News BoyYesterday I told you to keep a lookout for another Hidden Headlines column this week, but even I couldn’t have predicted that the column would need to go up on Tuesday to keep up with everything going on in the poker world!

Sam Trickett joins Mike Mizrachi as ISPT ambassador

This morning Sam Trickett posted the following message on his Twitter account: “I just want to announce that I will be an @ispt_poker official ambassador. Will be one of the Biggest tournaments ever held May 31, 2013”

Trickett, the runner-up at the Big One for One Drop tournament at the 2012 WSOP, is one of the biggest names in poker and joins another well-known poker player in Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi as ambassadors for the upstart poker tour.

Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen headed to space

According to an article in Cardplayer Europe, PLO sensation Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen has reserved a seat to take flight into outer space! Kyllonen told Cardplayer Europe that he paid €160,000 to reserve the seat, but doesn’t expect to be able to go into space until sometime in 2014.

Kyllonen is no stranger to plunking down large sums of money, considering he paid the entire $1,000,000 buy-in for the Big One for One Drop tournament out of his own pocket.

Independent online poker site PokerAce launches

A new site has recently appeared on the online poker landscape, PokerAce.com, an independent poker room based in the Philippines with a focus on the burgeoning Asian online poker market. As of now the site is only available in a non-download, browser-based, format, but does have some unique features (most notably the segregated tables with higher rake for sports-bettors) which will likely be discussed and debated in the site’s official 2+2 thread which you can read here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/pokerace-asian-online-poker-room-introduction-1237777/

PokerAce has already signed a number of poker players to represent the site including 2012 October Niner Steven Gee, JC Tran, and 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.

Poker is Skill argument goes mainstream and scientific

Since the landmark ruling last week that saw a federal judge declare poker a game of skill the mainstream media has picked-up the story and run with it, with articles on the decision appearing in virtually every publication from the Wall Street Journal, to the New York Times, to the Christian Science Monitor.

Now the story is even breaking into academia as Scientific American published an excellent article on the luck vs. skill debate in poker which you can read here: http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cocktail-party-physics/2012/08/27/knowing-when-to-fold-em-the-science-of-poker/
