As we get ready to ring in the New Year (which means two of the biggest poker tournaments of the year are about to take place: The PCA and the Aussie Millions) there are a few loose ends that need to be tied, and a few stories to bring our loyal readers that may have been missed during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Gus Hansen fires of on Twitter

Some recent tweets by Gus Hansen raised a few eyebrows when the former owner (and current sponsored pro) of Full Tilt Poker decided to randomly voice his opinions on Howard Lederer without prompting. Hansen’s somewhat defense of Howard caused a backlash from the poker community, but I do have to say, Gus has a point.

“If the ‘We hate Howard Lederer‘ group would hate on banks and insurance companies, I would have some sympathy- as it is- get a fu**ing grip,”

Poker will be on the Mind Sport schedule in Vienna

The Vienna Mind Sports Festival will take place from February 11, 2013 through February 25, 2013 and this year Poker will have a spot in the rotation along with the other recognized Mind Sports like Risk, Chess, Backgammon, Scrabble, and even Magic the Gathering – basically turning the Austrian capital into a veritable Nerd’s Paradise in February.

Poker’s inclusion in the Mind Sports pantheon is a relatively new occurrence, thanks mainly to the International Poker Federation’s (IFP) efforts, led by Anthony Holden –the author of two of the best selling poker books in history, Big Deal and Bigger Deal.

Roberto Romanello creates a new tournament format

Multi Prize Pool Poker will debut in just 10 days at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club, and the intriguing format is already causing a bit of a buzz in the poker community. The format –which allows players to buy into one, two, or all three prize pools for the tournament could possibly reshape the way tournament poker is played, allowing pros to participate for larger prize pools while at the same time not pushing away casual players who don’t have the deep pockets of the top poker pros.
