James Obst leads entering Day 3 of Aussie Millions
The 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event is down to just 69 players after two full days of play, and among the remaining players are some of the biggest names in all of poker and two members of Team IveyPoker.com, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius. The two superstars and the rest of the field are all looking at the chip-leader James Obst. Obst is the only player in the field who managed to break the 1 million chip mark at the end of play on Day 2.
Obst is a well-known poker commodity in Australia where he has been playing professionally for a number of years. Among his career accomplishments is a win at the 2010 APPT Sydney High-Roller tournament and a runner-up finish in the 2010 ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. Should Obst, or one of the other Aussies still in the field, hang on to win the tournament (I know it’s still early with a lot of poker to play) they would be the fifth straight winner hailing from Australia, a pretty impressive run considering the high turnout and international field the event attracts.
Despite a drop in attendance (the third straight year the Aussie Millions has seen declining attendance numbers) the Main Event of the 2013 Aussie Millions will award two seven-figure prizes, with the winner receiving $1.6 million, as well as a new car, and the runner-up pocketing a nice $1 million prize. Here is a look at the final table payouts from the event:
* 1st place: $1,600,000
* 2nd place: $1,000,000
* 3rd place: $600,000
* 4th place: $400,000
* 5th place: $290,000
* 6th place: $220,000
* 7th place: $150,000
* 8th and 9th place: $120,000
Joining Obst, Antonius, and Ivey on Day 3 will be Lee Markholt, Jay Tan, Brandon Adams, Dan Shak, and former Aussie Millions Champion Tyron Krost. Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day 3:
1. James Obst — 1,061,000
2. Scott Wilson — 933,500
3. Mervin Chan — 774,500
