Jason Mercier wins Champion of Champions tournament

A total of 50 former European Poker Tour Champions gathered the day after the EPT Grand Finale Main Event concluded to take part in the first-ever Champion of Champions freeroll tournament with $100,000 in EPT Season 8 passports up for grabs.

Despite the relatively low dollar amount the players would receive in prizes –these are the best poker players in the world after all, so a $50,000 passport is usually not enough to even get them out of bed—apparently the prestige of the tournament trumped the money, because players such as Galen Hall, Jason Mercier, ElkY, and a total 50 of the 70 EPT champions all turned out for the tournament; of course they were already in Madrid anyway!

In the end it was Jason Mercier who would take home the title and the $50,000 Passport –with places 2-4 winning lesser valued EPT Season 8 Passports. The entire tournament was played with a light atmosphere and players definitely willing to get their chips in the middle, as evidenced by ElkY and Mercier’s willingness to clash hand-after-hand despite being the two big-stacks at the table.

Here is a look at the four players who secured EPT Passports during the Champion of Champions tournament at the EPT Grand Finale in Madrid:

1.    Jason Mercier – €50,000 Season 8 Passport
2.    Galen Hall – €25,000 Season 8 Passport
3.    Max Lykov – €15,000 Season 8 Passport
4.    Victoria Coren – €10,000 Season 8 Passport
