The poker action in Macau last week was at an all-time high as some of the top poker players in the world headed to Macau to take part in the Triton Super High Roller Series 2017 which took place at the Galaxy Macau Hotel in Taipa. The highlight of the series was the Triton Super High Roller Series Main Event as there were millions in guaranteed prize money.

John Juanda Wins $2.8 Million

The final came down to an exciting face-off between two of the best poker players in the world. Germany’s Fedor Holz and the American Indonesian John Juanda battled it out in a heads up game that turned out to be a super exciting four and half hours for poker fans. Juanda who is a member of the Poker Hall of Fame (PHoF) used all of his experience to defeat Holz and walked away with over $2.8 million in prize money while Holz took $2.1 million for finishing in second place.

Juanda heaped praise on Fedor Holz and said that it was a really tough game as Holz is known for winning high-roller events across the world. He said that both of them had a different style when it came to playing poker and this was one of the reasons why it lasted four and half hours. With this win, Juanda now moves into seventh place in the All Time Money list with just over $23.5 million in prize money and is now one spot away from surpassing Phil Ivey.

Elite Poker Pros In Attendance

The Triton Super High Roller Series Main Event had a buy-in of HK $1,000,000 and saw a total of 56 unique registrations and an additional 26 re-entries. This meant a total of 83 registrations which created a prize pool in excess of $10 million which turned out to be the biggest prize pool in Triton history. The event was played over a three day period and saw top pros such as Stefan Schillhabel, Steve O’Dwyer, Steffen Sontheimer, Ben Lamb, Mike Watson and Erik Seidel in attendance.

When the final table commenced, Fedor Holz was in fifth place with his chip count at 4,325,000 while Juanda was in seventh place with a chip count of 990,000. The top 12 players at the Main Event were the ones who finished in the money. Australian poker pro Kahle Burns finished in third place and took home $1.3 million, Adrian Mateos who is one of the top poker pros in Spain took fourth place and received $890,000 while Germany’s Dietrich Fast finished in fifth place and received $590,000.

Juanda was thrilled with his win and also heaped paid on the Triton Series and its organizers. The hall of famer said that there were so many things that were special about Triton tournaments, especially the way they treated the players. Juanda said that he loved playing Triton tournaments in Macau, Montenegro and Manila and made special mention of the buffet which he termed as the best in all poker tournaments he has played at.
