Julian Thew has long been considered one of the UK’s top poker pros, and his recent record-setting win at the GUKPT in Coventry. The win marks Thew’s third such victory, making him the only player with three GUKPT titles.

Thew had previously won on the GUKPT at stops in Brighton (in 2008) and Plymouth (in 2007), and has also raised his hands in victory on the European Poker Tour, where he scored his biggest payday to date, winning the EPT Baden Main Event in 2007 and pocketing an impressive $950k in the process. In his short career Thew has racked up over $2.7 million in career tournament earnings.

Thew’s recent GUKPT win was a double celebration of sorts as the poker pro was celebrating his birthday on the same day that he locked up the $66k score. The tournament itself attracted 145 entrants, many of them top talents on the UK poker scene.

Thew is a representative of the independent online poker room Sky Poker, a site that offers a great selection of bonus code poker options, and runs their own tournament series, the Sky Poker Tour.

After winning the event Thew had this to say the media: “I’m totally thrilled to have scooped my third GUKPT title. It sure helped that I ran like Jamie Gold circa 2006 at the final table – I don’t think I’ve ever quite played one like it before! I’d also like to thank the whole Sky Poker Team for having faith in me and signing me up to the site earlier this year. My next event will be the first leg of the Sky Poker Tour in a fortnight followed by the UKOPS series.”
