The Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival has been in action this week and attracted 632 players to its tables, offering players the opportunity to pit their skills against other hopefuls for a first place prize pool of 70,000 euros.

The festival played out over 4 days of action and it was Swedish born Lars Torngren that took the title after a hard fought battle to reach the final table and then having to outlast well known World Series of Poker Main Event finalist John ‘Skalie’ Kalmar.

The victory came as the final hand boasted 3 active players, all of whom opted to push their complete chip stacks into the centre and battle it out over one final hand and it was Torngren that was the victor.

Made up of Torngren, Brain McGleenon and Paul Lucey, the final hand saw the action unfold as each player looked to stamp their dominance on the showdown but their actions lead to a three way all in call.

McGleenon pushed on the button with Jack/Five, followed by Torngren who was holding pocket Sixes and finally Lucey followed suit and pushed all in with Ace/Seven.

With the community cards running dry for all three players involved, it was Torngren’s pocket Sixes that held up to take the pot, winning the London based Swede the tournament and the first place payout of 75,000 euros.

The final placings for the tournament saw Paul Lucey finishing in second and walking away with 50,000 euros for his participation in the tournament and Brian McGleenon left the tournament with a third place payout of 30,000 euros.

Torngren was asked about how he was feeling after the tournament and he replied saying that he had been playing poker for 8 years now and this is his first big tournament win, he also added that he was looking forward to returning to the Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival next year to try to defend his title.

Kate McClannan who is the head of poker at Ladbrokes said “It’s been another fantastic year in Ireland. The Irish Poker Festival keeps getting better and better and we are delighted for Lars, he was a worthy winner. All eyes are now on the Poker Cruise in January which is shaping up to be one of the best yet.”
