McDonald outshines Seidel at Epic Poker League final table

During 2011 Erik Seidel has been no stranger at major final tables, and has won more than his fair share of tournaments as well. So even though the fact that the hottest player in poker reached his second straight Epic Poker League Main Event final table would be a noteworthy accomplishment, but for Seidel it seems it’s just par for the course.

Unfortunately for Seidel his second trip to the Epic Poker league final table was even more disappointing than his first visit when he finished as the runner-up to Chino Rheem –if you can call a 2nd place and a 4th place finish worth six-figures a disappointment.

The man who stole Seidel’s thunder was Canadian poker pro Mike “Timex” McDonald, who managed to best the 97 player field and claim the second Epic Poker league Main Event title, along with the $782k in prize-money that was awarded to the winner.

McDonald first came to prominence in the world of online poker, and quickly made the transition to live poker when he was old enough. Even after a brief retirement from poker, McDonald has come back with a vengeance, proving he is still one of the most feared tournament players in the world.

McDonald also sits on the Epic Poker League Standards and Conduct Committee which has been very busy over the first two tournaments. The first matter up for their perusal was Chino Rheem’s debts which eventually warranted Rheem being placed on probation by the EPL. This was followed by Mike Divita qualifying for the Main event through the Pro/Am tournament, but later being barred from participating when it came to light that he has a criminal record that led to him becoming a registered sex offender. Divita’s Pro/Am buy-in was refunded by the EPL and the 10th place finisher was awarded his spot in the Main Event.

In addition to Seidel and McDonald the final table included two Pro/Am qualifiers in Nam Le and 2011 WSOP bracelet winner Sean Getzwiller who was won his way into both EPL Main Events through the Pro/Am qualifier. Rounding out the final table was French poker star Fabrice Soulier, Isaac Baron, David Steicke, and the enigmatic Dutch Boyd.

Here is a look at how the final table participants fared and the prize-money they received during the second Epic Poker league Main Event:

  1. Mike McDonald — $782,410
  2. David Steicke — $506,260
  3. Fabrice Soulier — $299,160
  4. Erik Seidel — $184,100
  5. Nam Le — $126,570
  6. Isaac Baron — $92,050
  7. Sean Getzwiller — $69,040
  8. Dutch Boyd — $57,530
