Mike Mizrachi wins 2nd $50k Championship in 3 years
In 2010 Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi turned his WSOP career around (and his life for that matter) when he won the $50k Poker Players Championship, which was astonishingly Mizrachi’s first WSOP bracelet. Mizrachi then went on to final table the 2010 WSOP Main Event, finishing 5th, etching his place into WSOP lore. Well, yesterday Mizrachi further cemented his recent WSOP legacy by winning the Poker Players Championship for the second time in three years.
In the middle of the poker boom there was no bigger name in tournament poker than Mizrachi, but towards the end of the decade “The Grinder” fell on some hard times as the variance of tournament poker, and bad investments, caught up to the superstar. Basically on the doorstep of bankruptcy, Mizrachi made the most improbable of runs at the 2010 WSOP to reclaim his former glory, and turn his financial woes around.
Mizrachi is now the first player to win the $50k Players Championship twice, no small feat considering the event is only seven years old. In between his two Poker Player Championship wins Mizrachi won a third WSOP bracelet, winning the $10k Mixed Holdem event at the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe.
While Mizrachi won the tournament with barely a sweat –steamrolling the entire final table from virtually start to finish—the final table was far from an easy lineup with recent bracelet winner Andy Bloch among the final eight players.
Mizrachi started the day by eliminating both Bruno Fittousi and Bill Chen on the same hand, which gave him the chip-lead, and from there it was basically a combination of running good and good play as Mizrachi made the final table of one of the most prestigious and difficult tournaments look like a cakewalk.
Here is a look at how the final table fared on Thursday:
1. Michael Mizrachi — $1,451,527
2. Chris Klodnicki — $896,935
3. Andy Bloch — $561,738
4. Luke Schwartz — $406,736
5. Roland Israelashvili — $317,882
6. Stephen Chidwick — $253,497
7. Bill Chen — $205,856
8. Bruno Fitoussi — $169,879
Mizrachi has had a phenomenal 2012 tournament campaign, making his third cash of the 2012 WSOP, all of which have been 5th place or better finishes. In addition to his WSOP success, Mizrachi finished 3rd at the $25k WPT Championship in May.
The question is now where Mizrachi’s accomplishment ranks on the all-time list of the World Series of Poker? in the past three WSOP’s Mizrachi has won the Poker Players Championship twice, made the final table of the WSOP Main Event, won a third WSOP bracelet, and has made eight final tables!
