The Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders should have been looking forward to the 2010 football season considering the team was picked to win the Sun Belt Conference. Unfortunately they may be without the services of their starting quarterback Dwight Dasher thanks to a nasty poker habit that has landed the senior in hot water.

Dasher, who was on many people’s short-list for numerous awards this year –The Paul Hornung Award as well as the Walter Camp Award– after making the All-Conference team last season apparently borrowed money from an elderly man to play poker: The problem was he didn’t repay the debt, some $1,500!

Compounding his problems, Dasher allegedly stole a check from a teammate and reports are a little conflicting here, but he either tried to use it to pay back the man or as collateral to get a $1,500 loan.

It’s hard to imagine Dasher will not be suspended from the team for some period of time pending a full investigation, despite the blow it will deliver to the Blue Raiders chances of repeating as Sun Belt Champions. It’s also unknown just how far the investigation will go, and what else it may uncover.

This is a sad situation for a player who had a legitimate shot at making an NFL roster next year, but hopefully Dasher can learn from the ordeal, graduate from MTSU, and get back on the football field at some point.
