Nelson triumphs at PokerStars ANZPT Melbourne
Long-time poker pro, noted poker author, and Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Lee Nelson can now add the words ANZPT Champion to his resume, as the Australian native captured the PokerStars ANZPT Melbourne Main Event this week, winning his first major tournament since 2006, and pocketing over $150k in the process.
Nelson has had a distinguished career at the poker tables, having won the 2006 Aussie Millions, the 2005 Party Poker World Open, and now an ANZPT Championship. Known as “final table” Nelson has amassed over $2.2 million in career tournament earnings, and was one of the top tournament players in the world between 2005 and 2006.
Nelson has also had quite a bit of success as a poker author, penning the highly popular Kill Phil and Kill Everyone tournament strategy books.
A total of 310 players entered the $2,200 buy-in Main Event, and as is usually the case for an ANZPT event, a number of the top Aussie poker players and a few international poker pros were in attendance including David Steicke, Celina Lin, Jackie Glazier, Harry Demetriou, and Leo Boxell.
Here is a look at how the final table fared at the 2011 PokerStars ANZPT Melbourne Main Event:
