Online legend USCphildo makes WSOP November Nine

We’ve seen some very solid online poker players make the WSOP Main Event final table –players like Joseph “Sublime” Cheong in 2010 as well as Joe Cada and James Akenhead in 2009—but none of these players were as well-known in the world of online poker as this year’s final table member, Phil “USCphildo” Collins.

Collins has one of the most impressive resumes in online poker history, with over $3 million in tournament winnings according to pocketfives.com. Collins plays under the screen-name “USCphildo” at PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and UB Poker, in honor of his time spent at the University of South Carolina.

Collins is in the top tier of online tournament poker players, standing alongside names like Shaun Deeb, Chris “moorman1” Moorman, and almost November Niner David “Doc” Sands. And like the three previously mentioned players, Collins has been able to transition to live poker in recent years, which has likely helped ease Collins’ suffering since Black Friday.

That said, Collins’ live tournament results do not tell the whole story, and on the surface seem rather pedestrian; the true test of how well a player has transitioned to live poker is by looking at how well enmeshed they have become in the Las Vegas poker landscape, and for his part, Collins is no longer an online kid, and is considered a Las Vegas pro –basically membership into the club.

Now Collins stands on the precipice of poker immortality, as a Top 3 finish in the Main Event would not only reap millions of dollars in prize-money on the now 26 year-old, but would also make USCphildo a very hot commodity for sponsorship deals, if and when the US decides to legalize online poker.
