PokerStars PCA Super-High-Roller draws 32 entrants
It seems like the Super-High-Roller tournaments may be here to stay as the $100k buy-in tournament that kicked off the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) came very close to last year’s mark of 38 entrants on Thursday, with a total of 34 players registering for the event.
As would be expected for a tournament with a six-figure buy-in the participants in the event were basically a who’s who of the poker world, with superstars like Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, reigning BLUFF POY and defending champion in the tournament Eugene Katchalov, Jason Mercier, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier among the nearly three dozen entrants.
A total of five players will make the money in the tournament, meaning several players will have made it to the final table and will still go home empty-handed. The 5th place finisher is in line for a massive min-cash of $250k, while the winner of the tournament will be looking at a seven-figure payday. Here is a look at the payouts for the top five finishers:
* 1st place: $1,254,400
* 2nd place: $846,700
* 3rd place: $470,400
* 4th place: $313,600
* 5th place: $250,900
Among the chip-leaders at the end of Day 1 of the tournament are some very familiar names, with Ike Haxton leading the field and Erik Seidel in 3rd place on the leader-board, but sandwiched in between those two is somewhat of a surprise in the form of Team PokerStars Pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who hasn’t had much live tournament success in his poker career up to this point.
Blom shot up the leader-board after a late hot-streak saw him eliminate first Bryn Kenney, and just minutes later Matt Glantz. Sitting in 2nd place on the leader-board doesn’t really mean all that much for Blom, as he is known for accumulating as well as losing chips at a rapid rate! But an Isildur1 victory in this event would most definitely be a great way to begin the 2012 tournament year!
Another player who fared very well on Day 1 was Jonathan Duhamel, who has been the talk of the poker world over the past few weeks after being the victim of a brutal home invasion that saw his 2010 WSOP Championship bracelet stolen (along with a Rolex and over a hundred thousand dollars in cash) and required a hospital trip; fortunately the suspects have been arrested.
