Poker Players Alliance to Make Protest Showing
The ongoing legal battle to overturn the US Government’s decision to make playing poker online in a number of states within America is still very much alive.
Lee Rousso recently gave a testimony to the Supreme Court in Olympia surrounding the issue and now that this has been given, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) are planning to protest outside the court house to show their belief that the decision to make playing online poker within the Pacific Northwest a Class C felony.
Although the battle is still continuing, a court in Washington admitted that they had seen some of the points that Rousso put forward as being correct but Rousso believes that the courts have missed the main argument that the spokesman was looking to put forward.
Rousso said “The central argument is that Washington State’s statute that bans internet poker is protectionist in nature. It protects in-state businesses from out of state competition. The Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution doesn’t allow that. I think it’s clear that online poker is international commerce, which means that the states can’t regulate it.”
Under the decision to make the playing of online poker within the area into a Class C felony, the government have theoretically moved to say that the online pass time is as bad as child pornography and the selling of Class A drug, Heroin.
A large number of the Poker Players Alliance members are expected to descend on the Washington based showing that will take place May 27th 2010 at 10.00 Est.
