One of the most consistent tournaments in terms of attendance over the past four years has been the World Series of poker Europe Main Event. The inaugural event in 2007 saw a total of 362 players (which is still the highest in the tournaments brief history) a number that was matched in 2008; in 2009 334 players made the trek to the London, and in 2010 342 players entered the Main Event at the WSOPE.

Now that the tournament has been moved to Cannes, France, WSOP officials were hoping for an uptick in attendance, and they nearly got a new record… ON DAY 1a ALONE! Day 1a of the 2011 WSOPE Main Event saw 310 players hit the tables, and tournament officials are expecting an even larger turnout for Day 1b, which could see the total attendance rise to unheard of numbers… 700, 750, 800???

Of the 310 players that registered on Day 1a, 165 managed to make it through to Day 2 of the tournament which will be held on Monday. Amongst the survivors were a slew of big names including a handful who managed to bag up over 100k in chips: Lock Poker Pro Chris Moorman (121,775), Darren Elias (111,400), Leo Boxell (110,900), Emil Patel (109,000) and Johnny Chan (108,350). Joining the big stacks on Day 2 will be 2011 November Niner Sam Holden, Erik Seidel, recent bracelet winner Tristan Wade, Matt Waxman and Randy Dorfman.
