Poker pro John Monnette wins WSOP 8-Game Mix
Yet another professional poker pro captured their first World Series of Poker bracelet at the 2011 WSOP on Wednesday; this time around it was John Monnette who broke through with a win in the $2,500 8-Game Mix tournament.
Monnette traversed the 489 player field over three days, and managed to triumph over a very tough final that included the likes of 2010 WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener, John Juanda (who was looking for his second bracelet of 2011), and Eric Buchman (the last player eliminated), who fell to Monnette in heads-up action. The final table also featured yet another female player, so it seems only a matter of time before the ladies take home a bracelet at the 2011 WSOP.
This marked Monnette’s third final table at the WSOP and fifth top-10 finish at the WSOP, with his previous best WSOP placing a runner-up finish to Phil Ivey in the 2009 No Limit 2-7 tournament.
In addition to winning his first major tournament, and first WSOP bracelet, the $278k in first-place prize-money sends Monnette over the $1 million mark for career tournament earnings
Here is a look at the final table payouts from the $2,500 8-Game Mix tournament:
1. John Monnette – $278,144
2. Eric Buchman – $171,855
3. Michele Limongi – $109,245
4. Brent Hanks – $78,774
5. Desmond Portano – $57,692
6. John Juanda – $42,897
7. Adam Kornuth – $32,373
8. John Racener – $24,797
