Poker tournament schedule back in full swing

There is always a quiet period on the tournament schedule around the globe following the World Series of Poker’s conclusion in July, but this year we saw a second lull in the action, in mid-August, before three of the major poker tours around the globe –the WPT, the EPT and the APPT– got back in the swing of things this past week. Here is a look at the major poker tournaments currently taking place around the globe:

The PokerStars.net APPT is currently in Queenstown for the Snowfest Main Event, where a total of 127 entered the tournament over the course of the three Day 1 starting flights. The winner of the event is in line to pocket nearly $100k NZD.

Meanwhile, PokerStars is also in Barcelona hosting the PokerStars.net EPT Barcelona Main Event tournament, which kicked off Saturday. Barcelona is historically one of the most popular spots on the EPT tour, and tournament organizers are anticipating a solid turnout despite the competing tournaments around the globe.

The third and final major tournament currently underway is the WPT Legends of Poker Main Event taking place at the Bicycle Casino on Los Angeles, California. The Legends of Poker event saw a total of 757 players register for the event (25% of which were repeat registrants thanks to the multi-entry format the tournament used) creating a massive prize-pool, with the winner pocketing over $750k.

At the same time the GUKPT Goliath is taking place at Ricoh Arena, as organizers attempt to break the record for the largest tournament in European poker history; currently held by the 2009 Boyle Poker IPO, which attracted 1,440 entrants.

Never been a fan of rebuys or multi entrie tourneys. Although I realize you need to approach these tourneys differently. I find them a cash grab and to me is not real poker. Tournement play means when you lose all your chips thats it. I refuse to play them so they dont affect my bankroll and thats fine with me. In my opinion they are not a true reflection of your skill. I’m sure lots of people like them and thats fine too. Just don’t like them myself
