Rast and Mueller headline Event #9 final table
A pair of double bracelet winners, Brian Rast and Greg Mueller, advanced to the final table of Event #9, the $1,500 NLHE tournament with reentries. In addition to Rast and Mueller, Amanda Musumeci continued the good run of women at the 2012 WSOP, as she enters the final table near the top of the chip-counts.
The event got off to an inauspicious start this weekend as there was some controversy over players reentering the event multiple times. According to reports, 11 players were allowed to reenter the tournament twice during Sunday’s Day 1b, when the tournament format clearly stated players were only allowed to reenter on Day 1b if they busted on Day 1a of the tournament.
The reentry controversy aside, the final table is shaping up to be one of the best of the 2012 WSOP thus far.
Rast won both of his bracelets at the 2011 World Series of Poker, including the coveted $50k Players Championship where he defeated Phil Hellmuth heads-up for the title –Rast’s other 2011 win was in the $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem tournament.
Mueller won both of his bracelets at the 2009 World Series of Poker where the former hockey player won the $10k Limit Holdem Championship and just over a week later won the $1,500 Limit Holdem Shootout tournament.
Musumeci is an east coast poker pro who first rose to prominence after being sponsored by Bodog Poker. Since making the switch to live tournament poker in 2011 Musumeci has racked-up a number of cashes including a 62nd place finish in the 2011 WSOP Main Event (worth over $162k). This will mark the first major tournament final table in Musumeci’s career, but considering her recent results it most likely will not be the last.
Musumeci is the sixth women to make a WSOP final table in the first 10 events of the 2012 WSOP, but it’s still Vanessa Selbst’s victory at the 2008 WSOP in the $1,500 PLO event that marks the last female victory in an open event at the WSOP.
Here is a look at the “unofficial” final table chip counts of the remaining players:
1. Ryan Olisar — 3,400,000
2. Brian Rast — 2,670,000
3. Duy Ho — 2,100,000
4. Amanda Musumeci — 2,050,000
5. Benjamin Reinhart — 950,000
6. Ashkan Razavi — 925,000
7. Greg Mueller — 850,000
8. Derrick Huang — 830,000
9. Dien Le — 700,000
So, while Mueller and Rast make a push for their third WSOP bracelet, Musumeci is looking to end the drought of nearly 300 consecutive WSOP tournaments without a win by a woman.
The final table will begin as a case of the “have’s” and the “have not’s” considering four players are over 2 million in chips while the other five are all under the 1 million chip mark.
