Robbie Bull wins big at the PokerStars UKIPT London
The PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) London Main Event is just getting started, but the tournament series has already played host to two very prestigious tournaments, the PokerStars UKIPT London Main Event and the EPT London Super-High-Roller tournament. On Sunday both events crowned a champion, with Scotland’s Robbie Bull pulling out a victory in the UKIPT London Main Event.
The UKIPT stop in London is the biggest event on the tour’s calendar every year, and this year was no exception as 747 players registered for the £1,100 buy-in tournament, generating a prize-pool of nearly £750k. In the end it would come down to a heads-up clash between Robbie Bull and Ian Simpson.
After a heads-up deal took some of the pressure off of the duo it was the 21 year-old Bull who would emerge victorious, picking up his first major tournament victory, while at the same time denying Simpson his second major victory of 2013.
According to the PokerStars blog, Bull is the third consecutive UKIPT London champion that hails from Scotland, and at 21 is one of the youngest champions in UKIPT history. On top of that he may have sent out the greatest celebratory tweet in poker history:
“Sweet jesus. Dream final table. Everything went my way. Can’t think straight right now. Thanks for all the support and messages ya legends.”
The final table Bull alluded to in his tweet was no exaggeration, considering it included three well-known UK poker players, starting with well-known UK player Paul Zimbler (who at one time held the record for the longest poker session in poker history; which was eventually broken by Phil Laak) as well as two players that have been on absolute tear in recent weeks, Ian Simpson and Sunny Chattha.
Chattha is coming off a GUKPT victory at the Manchester stop in September, a tournament where he outlasted Ian Simpson (who finished in 8th place) on his way to victory.
Simpson has had a remarkable 2013, winning the Irish Poker Open, after finishing 4th in that same tournament last year, and with Sunday’s result he has now pocketed over $500k for the year in tournaments.
Here is a look at the final table payouts from the tournament:
1. Robbie Bull — £113,405*
2. Ian Simpson — £106,869*
3. Jack Salter — £59,125
4. Lasse Frost — £44,635
5. Dario Samartino — £35,360
6. Karl Mahrenholz — £26,735
7. Patryk Slusarek — £19,200
