Sam Trickett does it again; takes down $250k Challenge

Sam-TrickettIf anyone wants to know who I would vote for as the best tournament poker player in the world is, it’s Sam Trickett. Trickett doesn’t have an armful of WSOP bracelets or multiple WPT/EPT victories, what he does is simple; he wins! And Trickett tends to win the big tournaments like his most recent victory in the 2013 Aussie Million $250k Challenge, where he came out on top of the small 14 player field to pocket the $2 million first-place prize.

This is the sixth seven-figure cash of Trickett’s relatively short career, and with the $2 million in winnings he now sits in second place on the all-time money list according to thehendonmob.com. Not too bad for a guy whose tournament career spans all of six years!

Trickett came into Day 2 of the tournament in fifth place with just seven players remaining, sitting on stack of about 20 big blinds:

* Tobias Reinkemeier — 1,237,000

* Igor Kurganov — 854,000

* Fabian Quoss — 764,000

* Richard Yong — 580,000

* Sam Trickett — 494,000

* Winfred Yu — 387,000

* Erik Seidel — 184,000

The key hand of the final table occurred when Trickett made a straight flush to vault into the chip-lead, bettering the straight of Igor Kurganov, whose 4th place showing was his second High-roller cash of the tournament series –Kurganov was the runner-up in the $100k challenge last week.

Here is a look at the payouts from the $250k Challenge tournament:

1. Sam Trickett — $2,000,000

2. Tobias Reinkemeier — $1,250,000

3. Fabian Quoss — $750,000

4. Igor Kurganov — $500,000

Aussie Millions Main Event update

Meanwhile the Aussie Millions Main Event is playing down to the final table today. Right now 10 players remain, but the final table will be played six-handed, so four more players will need to be eliminated before they can call it a night. Here is a look at the current chip-stacks and players still gunning for the prestigious title:

1. Dan Shak — 3,965,000

2. Patrik Antonius — 2,900,000

3. Joseph Cabret — 2,725,000

4. Mervin Chan — 2,300,000

5. Jarrod Glennon — 1,775,000

6. Mark Betts — 1,650,000

7. Jay Tan — 1,420,000

8. David Yan — 880,000

9. Ping Chan — 650,000

10. Sam Cohen — 477,000

The final table is shaping up to be a very good one, considering Dan Shak and Patrik Antonius are two of the bigger names in poker, along with two women still in the hunt in Jay Tan and Sam Cohen.
