Sands leads PCA Super High Roller final table
The final table of the 2013 PokerStars PCA $100k Super-High-Roller tournament is now set, with all eight participants guaranteed a payday of at least $228,960, with the potential of reeling a $2 million prize. Leading the way will be online poker sensation turned live poker pro David “Doc” Sands. Sands will take a massive chip-lead into Monday’s final table, holding about 40% of the total chips in play at the eight-handed final table.
Sands was long known as one of the best online poker tournament players, and in 2011 the mainstream poker world was first introduced to “Doc Sands” when he made a super-deep run in the 2011 WSOP Main Event alongside his girlfriend Ericka Moutinho (a storyline that ESPN happily highlighted). Since then he has parlayed his online success into live tournament success, but is still in search of that first breakout win.
Joining Sands at the final table will be hedge fund manager turned poker player Dan Shak; tournament pro Nick Shulman; German young gun Phillip Gruissem; and 2011 WPT Champion Scott Seiver, who is widely considered one of the best players in the game. Rounding out the final table participants are the lesser known but very dangerous Greg Jensen, Vladimir Troyanovsky, and Cary Katz. Here is a look at the chip counts and seating assignments for each of the remaining players in the tournament:
* Seat 1: Nick Schulman — 2,295,000
* Seat 2: Dan Shak — 870,000
* Seat 3: Greg Jensen — 1,500,000
* Seat 4: Scott Seiver — 755,000
* Seat 5: Vladimir Troyanovsky — 505,000
* Seat 6: Philipp Gruissem — 1,610,000
* Seat 7: Cary Katz — 540,000
* Seat 8: David Sands — 6,680,000
While the final eight players are all guaranteed at least a six-figure payday, Antonio Esfandiari had the unfortunate distinction of being the final player eliminated on Sunday night, making him the final table bubble boy, although it’s hard to feel bad for someone who won close $20 million in tournaments during 2012!
The winner of the tournament will receive just over $2 million in prize-money, one of the richest first place prizes in poker in the last two years (only the WSOP Main Event and The Big One for One Drop handed out larger first-place purses) dating back to Erik Seidel’s 2011 win in the Aussie Millions $250k Super-Duper-High-Roller.
Here is a look at the complete final table payouts for the event:
* 1st place: $2,003,480
* 2nd place: $1,259,320
* 3rd place: $744,140
* 4th place: $543,800
* 5th place: $400,700
* 6th place: $286,200
* 7th place: $257,580
* 8th place: $228,960
The final table will get underway at 1 PM local time, taking place amidst the hustle and bustle of Day 1a of the PCA Main Event. You can find updates and more information on the happenings at the 2013 PCA at www.PokerStarsblog.com.
