Seidel supplants Mercier atop GPI Rankings

By the absolute slimmest of margins Erik Seidel was able to move to the top of the Global poker Index rankings, besting the previous #1, Jason Mercier, by less than a single point! Seidel ended the day with 2,604.55 points while Mercier’s total of 2,604.48 is now only good enough for second place.

The GPI Rankings use a weighted, 3-year rolling, format where players’ best results are tabulated with an emphasis on recent results (a players three best results during six separate periods of six months each are used). Because of this Seidel’s recent 4th place finish in the Epic Poker League Main Event erased his runner-up finish in the Hollywood Poker Open giving Seidel a modest increase of 6 points for his most recent 6 month period. While the six point increase was not enough by itself to supplant Mercier, Seidel received a little help from Mercier who lost one of his older results which took place outside of the 36-month time period.

Here is a look at the new Top 10 on the Global Poker Index:

1. Erik Seidel — 2,604.55

2. Jason Mercier — 2,604.48

3. Eugene Katchalov — 2,505.06

4. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier — 2,486.00

5. Sorel Mizzi — 2,359.29
