After having been shutout for the entirety of the 2009, 2010, and 2011 World Series of poker tournament series, the ladies came on strong at the 2012 WSOP, capturing two bracelets, and making a dozen final tables, including two-runner-up finishes, and there is still a full week of action left to be played!

The latest feather in the cap for the ladies goes to Vanessa Selbst (the last female open-event bracelet winner back in 2008) who captured the $2,500 10-Game Mix title on Sunday at the WSOP. Selbst nearly won a bracelet earlier this year when she finished 4th in Event #2, a $1,500 NLHE tournament, and 50 events later, in Event #52, she did in fact pickup her second career WSOP bracelet.

1. Vanessa Selbst – $244,259

2. Michael Saltzburg – $150,849

3. Tommy Hang – $97,884

4. Chris Bjorin – $64,649

5. Tom Chambers – $43,099

6. Mike Gorodinsky – $30,169

Another bracelet at the 2012 WSOP went to Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, the wife of Cardplayer Magazine bigwig and former WSOP Europe Main Event champion Barry Shulman, who won the $1,000 buy-in Seniors Championship, besting a field of over 4,000 players.

1. Allyn Jaffrey Shulman — $603,713

2. Dennis Phillips — $372,895

3. Bob Phelps — $270,727

4. Hoyt Corkins — $199,023

5. William Stabler — $147,605

6. Stuart Spear — $110,416

7. William Thomson — $83,332

8. Martin Fitzmaurice — $63,418

9. Harold Lilie — $48,669

Other strong finishes by females at the 2012 WSOP included Amanda Musumeci, who finished in second-place in the $1,500 with reentries NLHE event:

1. Ashkan Razavi – $781,398

2. Amanda Musumeci – $481,643

3. Derrick Huang – $347,228

4. Ryan Olisar – $252,379

5. Duy Ho – $185,378

6. Brian Rast – $137,632

7. Greg Mueller – $103,258

8. Benjamin Reinhart – $78,259

9. Dien Le – $59,969

And Jackie Glazier who also narrowly missed winning a bracelet after finishing second in Event #41, a $3,000 NLHE tournament:

1. Greg Ostrander — $742,072

2. Jackie Glazier — $458,996

3. Paul Vas Nunes — $290,407

4. Morten Mortensen — $210,793

5. Roger Fontes — $155,498

6. Darryl Ronconi — $116,452

7. Joseph Chaplin — $88,481

8. Kyle Frey — $68,121

9. Dylan Hortin — $53,126

10. JP Kelly — $41,976

By far this has been the best showing by women at the World Series of Poker in the 43-year history of the tournament series, and should a female manage to make the final table of the WSOP Main Event, 2012 will officially go down as the Year of the Woman at the WSOP –even it already hasn’t earned that moniker.
