Stars shining after 3 days of play at EPT San Remo

After a fast-paced and short-lived Day 3 we are left with just 64 players remaining in the hunt for the 2011 EPT San Remo title. Amongst the remaining players you’ll find a slew of top flight poker players including Joseph Cheong, Lex Veldhuis, Alessio Isaia, Johnny Lodden, and recent World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox, all of whom managed to not only survive, but finished the day in the Top 10 on the leader-board!

Other big names that will be back in action on Day 4 of the tournament include Mike “Timex” MCDonald, Kevin MacPhee, David Bach, Vanessa Selbst, John Duthie, Barny Boatman, and Tyler Bonkowski.

The money bubble burst almost immediately on Day 3 as the 144 players were quickly trimmed down to the 128 that would make the money, and with play scheduled to end when just 64 players remained in the tournament, it took just over 5 hours before tournament officials called it a wrap, and players bagged and tagged their chips.

One player in particular had a phenomenal day, Chris McClung. McClung ended Day 3 as the chip-leader, and was the only player to break the 1 million-chip mark, finishing the session with just over 1.2 million chips; far ahead of his nearest challenger Daniel Nielson, who ended the day with just over 850k chips.

Here is a look at the Top 10 chip-counts heading into Day 4 of the EPT San Remo Main Event:

1. Chris McClung — 1,202,000

2. Daniel Neilson — 853,000

3. Angelo Tarallo — 840,000

4. Joseph Cheong — 833,000

5. Alessio Isaia — 818,000

6. Johnny Lodden — 793,000

7. Javier Ferrero — 780,000

8. Aleksandar Kostadinovic — 763,000

9. Lex Veldhuis — 687,000

10. Elio Fox — 652,000

Despite a decrease in attendance for the second straight year, the EPT San Remo is still one of the most prestigious tournaments on the poker calendar, and the winner of the event will walk away with a hefty €800k in prize-money.

Tomorrow will see the first player eliminated walk away with a mere €12,000, so there is a lot riding on making it to the final table as the pay jumps are quite top-heavy –a player would have to make it to 22nd place to earn over €20,000, and only the top 6 finishers will receive 6-figure paydays. Here is a look at the final table payouts, which will illustrate just how big the pay jumps are in the tournament:

1. €800,000

2. €480,000

3. €285,000

4. €225,000

5. €170,000

6. €130,000

7. €95,000

8. €63,694
