It’s been an interesting week in the poker world; the World Series of Poker Europe is underway, one of the handful of legal US online poker rooms shut its doors, and a number of Brits were honored at the first British Poker Awards.

Perhaps the biggest news of the week was Phil Laak’s WSOPE win. The Unabomber, widely considered to be one of the best poker pros without a WSOP win, can now add a World Series of Poker bracelet to his trademark ‘hoodie’ and sunglasses. Read the entire story of Laak’s win [here].

In other news, Card Player Magazine finally called it quits on their experiment to create a legal US online poker room. The site, which was known as SpadeClub, offered players the chance to compete in poker tournaments with cash-prizes by signing up for a monthly subscription. Unfortunately, the site was unable to turn a profit and after hemorrhaging money for a couple of years Card Player has decided to shut the site down. For more on this story [click here].

Last week also saw a former Full Tilt employee subpoenaed in New York, The British Poker Awards were handed out in London, and the Poker players Alliance released their 2010 Congressional Ratings Guide.
