This Week in Tournaments: Hanks dominant on CPPT and more

World-Series-of-Poker-July-2010-dealer-tables-300x200It’s been quite a week in the world of tournament poker with events taking place all over the globe, and big names landing in the winner’s circles and at the final tables of major events. Most of the focus has been on the back-to-back final tables at the LA Poker Classic and Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament by Lock Poker pro Paul Volpe, but there were plenty of other tournaments taking place too. Here is a look at some of the events you may have overlooked while Paul Volpe was working his recent WPT magic.

Brent Hanks wins two Cardplayer Poker Tour Wynn preliminary tournaments

Brent Hanks run at the Cardplayer Poker Tour tournament series at the Wynn is one of the most impressive in recent memory. The WSOP bracelet winner final tabled the opening event of the tournament series –a $550 NLHE event– and has gone on to win not one but two tournaments, Event #3, a $300 NLHE event with 168 entries, and Event #5, a $440 NLHE event with 478 entries.

Nick Schulman wins Bay 101 High-Roller

Only 23 players registered for the $25,000 High-Roller tournament at the WPT Bay 101, and only three player cashed in the event, with poker pro Nick Schulman taking the top spot and turning his $25,000 entry into over $270,000.

3. David “Doc” Sands – $112,700

Luca Moschitta wins the IPT St. Vincent Main Event

Meanwhile, over in Italy, it was Luca Moschitta who topped an Italian-laden final table at the Italian Poker Tour (IPT) St. Vincent Main Event. The tournament attracted 358 players creating a huge prize-pool with Moschitta pocketing an impressive €180,000 for his win.

Blake Bohn wins Chicago Poker Classic Main Event

A field of 392 players took part in the 2013 Chicago Poker Classic Main Event, a $3,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem event, and in the end it was Blake Bohn who would come out victorious and walk away with a near $300,000 first-place prize.
