With the 2013 WSOP right around the corner the rest of the poker tours are trying to squeeze their remaining events before shutting down for six weeks while the WSOP does its thing in Las Vegas, and what we’ve seen is a smorgasbord of events taking place around the globe. In this installment of This Week in Tournaments we’ll take a look at Jake Cody’s victory on the UKIPT, Joe Cheng’s win in Manila, Blair Hinkle’s victory at the WSOPC Council Bluffs, and several other tournaments like the Borgata Spring Open.

Jake Cody triumphs on UKIPT

Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody picked up his first tournament win since his WSOP victory in 2011 (the third leg of Cody’s 22-month Triple Crown run) by winning the UKIPT Series 1 Main Event, topping a field of 343 players.

Joe Cheong wins Manila Millions Super-High-Roller

The Asian Poker Tour doesn’t get too much publicity, but that might change as more and more poker pros start headquartering themselves in Asia centered on the high-stakes action in Macau. At the Manila Millions tournament series the APT decided to host a $100,000 buy-in event (roughly $100,000 after the HKD to USD conversion) that drew 18 players including the eventual winner, Joe Cheong, who bested a couple of increasingly well-known Macau high-rollers in Richard Yong and Paul Phua on his way to victory.

Blair Hinkle makes history on the WSOPC

For the second time in three years Blair Hinkle is the WSOPC Council Bluffs champion. Hinkle bested the 367 player-field and in the process became the first player in WSOPC to win the same event twice.

502 players registered for the $2,500 Borgata Spring Poker Open Main Event and in the end it was poker pro Bobby Oboodi who would claim the top spot and the $300k first-place prize.

Guillaume Darcourt wins WPT National Cannes

234 players registered for the $2,000 buy-in tournament in Cannes, and in the end it was Frenchman Guillaume Darcourt who would walk away with the trophy. Darcourt has quietly become one of the better French poker players in poker, racking-up 10 five-figure cashes since his deep run in the 2011 WSOP Main Event. Darcourt has now topped the $1,000,000 mark for career tournament earnings.
