As promised earlier this week a second tournament roundup would be necessary this week and here it is. This time around I’ll take a look at some of the results from the World Series of Poker Circuit Series stop in Blackhawk, Colorado along with a feel-good story from the recently concluded Genting Poker Series stop in Newcastle, and finish up with an October-Niner winning one the biggest online tournament of the week.

Math Teacher wins the GPS Newcastle Main Event

Despite wintery conditions on the ground 400 players turned-up for the £400 buy-in Main Event in Newcastle on the Genting Poker Series. In the end it was a local math teacher that would best the poker players, Ellie Biessek, winning nearly £40,000 for her efforts.

Jonathan Taylor triumphs at WSOPC Blackhawk

The inaugural WSOPC tournament series at the Blackhawk Casino in Colorado was quite a success with a total of 421 players registering for the $1,500 main event. When the dust settled it was the victor, pocketing nearly $140,000 for his first major tournament win and first WSOPC ring.

Allen Kessler wins second WSOPC ring

Before the Main Event the talk of the WSOPC Blackhwak series was Allen Kessler’s win in Event #11. Kessler, recently signed to represent Team Ivey Poker, is known for his ability to cash in tournaments and inability to win them, but this time around he collected his second WSOPC ring and pocketed about $20,000 for winning the $500 buy-in tournament.

Not all of the big tournament action is taking place at live events, evidenced by the slew of pros winning FTOPS tournaments, and October Niner Russell Thomas’ win in last week’s Sunday Million tournament on PokerStars. Thomas was involved in a three-way deal at the end of the tournament, but went on to win the event and nearly $220,000.
