Tom Dwan falls just short of first WSOP title
The online poker world saw its poster-child come up just short in his bid to take home his first World Series of Poker bracelet, but alas it was not meant to be and Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan finished in 2nd place of Event #11,the $1,500 No limit Holdem tournament.
The man who ousted Dwan was Australian Simon Watt, who picked up his first WSOP win –actually his first WSOP cash—to go along with his APPT win in 2009.
In addition to the bracelet and $600k+ in first-place prize-money, according to WSOP.com there were untold millions at stake in prop bets. It seems the high stakes poker community has a little side action with Dwan on his bracelet chances –shocking, I know! Perhaps, Mike Matusow summed it up best when he walked into the poker room shortly after Watt’s win and said, “Thank you for saving us all millions of dollars! How does it feel to be every high-stakes gamblers hero? They’re gonna, like, put you on the wall in Bobby’s Room or some shit.”
Ah, the World Series of Poker and prop bets; apparently the hundreds of millions in prize money is just not high enough stakes for some of the big names in poker.
