Another busy week in the world of tournament poker has concluded and once again there was A LOT going on in card-rooms around the world. In addition to our comprehensive coverage of the 2012 WPT LA Poker Classic here is a look at some of the other tournament news from the past week.

WSOP Circuit Series Palm Beach Kennel Club

A huge field of 778 players registered for the WSOP Circuit Series stop in Palm Beach, Florida, building a massive prize-pool that would see the winner walk away with over $225,000. Despite the huge field, a major name in the poker world nearly made it to the final table, as Brian Hastings finished in a respectable 11th place.

218 players enter the WSOP Africa Main Event

The third annual WSOP Africa tournament series took place this past week, with the $3,300 Main Event drawing 218 entrants, including Scotty Nguyen who acted as the ambassador for the tournament in South Africa. In the end it was a local man named Joe-Boy Rahme (love the name) who would win the WSOP Africa title, the gold Championship ring, and over $150k in prize-money.

Phil Hellmuth wins LAPC side-event

It’s been four years since Phil Hellmuth last won a poker tournament, but in the early morning hours of February 29th, the Poker Brat managed to best a field of some of poker’s top players in the $2,080 8-game Mix at the LA Poker Classic. A deal was made when the tournament was five-handed, giving Hellmuth a $22,000 payday, but more importantly for Hellmuth, he would go on to win the tournament and the trophy. Hellmuth tweeted the following after his win: “It’s Feb 29, see u in 4 years (the NEXT Feb 29) to defend my title! #LeapYearWin”

Macau Poker Cup

Another running of the PokerStars Macau Poker Cup has come to an end, and this time around the Main Event attracted a field of 635 players for the Red Dragon Main Event. The winner of the tournament was Nicky Tao Jin, who will take home over HK$1 million, and one of the coolest trophies I’ve ever seen (check out the picture accompanying this article).
