Volpe and Lewis headline LA Poker Classic final table

wpt logoAfter five days of poker the 2013 World Poker Tour (WPT) LA Poker Classic final table is now set, with two of poker’s most accomplished players still in the hunt, Lock Poker pro Paul Volpe and IveyPoker.com’s Toby Lewis. The two men are on opposite sides of the coin in terms of chips, with Volpe will enter Thursday’s final table as the chip-leader while Lewis will have to play from behind as the second-shortest stack at the table.

After 511 eliminations over the five days of the tournament the final table is now set and one of the remaining players will become an instant millionaire. One notable elimination came just before the official final table bubble as recent World Series of Poker Circuit Series winner David Tuthill was eliminated in 8th place. Tuthill’s 8th place showing marks his second six-figure score in just two weeks; with the $128,550 his second biggest score of 2013, behind his WSOPC Caesar’s Palace victory where he earned over $223,000.

Paul Volpe is a well-known online poker players but he hasn’t been able to translate his online success into live tournament success as of yet. If Paul finishes in 4th place or better he will book the biggest score of his live tournament career, bettering his 20th place finish in last year’s WSOP Main Event where he earned $294,601.

Here is a look at the final table chip counts and seating assignments for the Season XI LA Poker Classic:

* Seat 1: Paul Klann – 3,375,000 (67 bb)

* Seat 2: Toby Lewis – 1,125,000 (22 bb)

* Seat 3: David Fong – 2,295,000 (45 bb)

* Seat 4: Jesse Yaginuma – 1,235,000 (24 bb)

* Seat 5: Danny Fuhs – 3,280,000 (65 bb)

* Seat 6: Paul Volpe – 4,195,000 (83 bb)

And here is a look at what the remaining players are playing for on Friday:

* 1st: $1,004,090 (includes a $25,500 seat into WPT Championship)

* 2nd: $651,170

* 3rd: $429,810

* 4th: $316,650

* 5th: $236,250

* 6th: $193,560

The final table of the LA Poker Classic will get underway at the Commerce Casino at Noon local time with the players in Level 27 with the blinds at $25,000/$50,000 with a $5,000 chip ante. With stacks between 22 and 83 big blinds spread across the six players there won’t be much wiggle room at the final table, so I wouldn’t expect one of those 16-hour marathon final tables.

Following the LA Poker Classic the WPT will move on to another popular stop, the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament series.
