Weekly Brief: Online poker bill and Isildur1
This week’s poker headlines were dominated by the mysterious Swedish pro Isildur1 and the possibility of online poker legislation in the United States. But also making headlines was a big tournament win for Full Tilt Poker’s Gus Hansen, a new promotion from Full Tilt Poker, as well as the WPT Five Diamonds Championship.
It would be hard to move the possibility of legalized online poker in the United States out of the headlines, but this is precisely what PokerStars was able to do with the announcement that the world’s largest online poker room had signed Isildur1, the most talked about online poker player over the past year. Isildur1 wasted no time in making his presence felt on the PokerStars virtual tables, considering one of his first matches pitted him against Phil Galfond!
Speaking of online poker legislation: The possibility of online poker legislation in the US saw more ups and downs this past week than the European economies! We did however finally get word from the architect of the online poker bill himself, Harry Reid, who still plans to push for legalized online poker before the New Year.
Elsewhere in the poker world: Gus Hansen took down the Full Tilt Poker Million IX: The WPT Five Diamonds had a strong turnout, besting last year’s attendance mark: And Full Tilt Poker has brought back the popular promotion of Short-Handed Happy Hour.
