Why Eric Buchman will win the 2009 World Series of Poker

Eric-BuchmanMost poker fans are saying “Eric who???” right about now, but diehard followers of the game are aware of Buchman’s capabilities.  Buchman is no stranger to big poker tournaments –of course the WSOP Main Event is “THE” tournament—with close to $1,000,000 in tournament winnings prior to his WSOP Main Event result.

Buchman’s biggest score was in 2004, where he pocketed $275k for winning the New England Poker Classic at Foxwoods. He also finished second in a WSOP Circuit event at Harrah’s in Atlantic City in 2007, and has two final tables at the WSOP – 2nd place in the $1,500 Limit Hold’ Em event in 2006, and 6th place in the $2,500 Omaha8/Stud 8 event in 2009.

So Buchman’s credentials are there. However, he also has two other things going for him at the final table: His #2 chip-stack, and his seat position.

Trailing only Darvin Moon, Buchman has a lot of chips to work, and his near 35 million chips dwarfs the other professionals at the table—Ivey, Shulman, Ankenhead, and Cada.

Buchman also drew one of the best seats at the table with Cada, Antoine Saout, and Shulman in between himself and chip-leader Darvin Moon, and only two players between himself and Phil Ivey –Schaffel and Begleiter. So, Buchman will be acting soon after Ivey, and doesn’t have to deal with a button vs. blind, or blind vs. blind scenario with Ivey until Schaffel or Begleiter are eliminated.
