World Poker Tour Vienna moves on to Day 2
With a number of big names pros in Europe for big events like the iSeries Live and in Vienna itself for the Party Poker Big Game and Premier League, the World Poker Tour (WPT) tournament in Vienna, Austria had a larger than usual number of big-name US poker players. And as we have seen in the past, anytime the big players come out for an event you can be sure that more semi-pro and casual players will also be in attendance.
Boasting a €3,500 entry-fee, the WPT Vienna attracted 173 players on Day 1a, and a further 233 players on Day 1b (41 of those Day 1b entries were re-entries from players who busted on Day 1a). The 396 entries was a far cry from the 555 entrants from last year’s tournament, especially considering the 41 re-entries –just another sign of Black Friday’s impact on the live poker world.
Of the 396 total entries, 45 will make the money, with over $400,000 set aside for the winner of the tournament.
One player in particular ended his day 1 flight with far more chips than anyone else, Darko Stojanovic. Stojanovic amassed 320,000 chips on Day 1b, over 100,000 more than Carsten Jeppe, who ended Day 1b in second place, and nearly 150,000 more than the Day 1a chip-leader David Breitfuss.
A number of big names managed to make Day 2 of the tournament including Sam el Sayad, Faraz Jaka, and WSOP bracelet winner Andrew Badecker who finished with over 100,000 chips. Other players surviving to Day 2 were Andy Frankenberger, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Toby Lewis, David Peters, Mohsin Charania, Jonathan Duhamel, Eugene Katchalov, Roberto Romanello, Bertrand Grospellier, Chris Moorman, Marvin Rettenmaier, and Steve O’Dwyer.
