The World Poker Tour had two events running simultaneously this weekend with the WPT Baden Main Event coming to a close in Vienna Austria, while halfway around the globe poker’s biggest names entered the 2013 LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California.

Rettenmaier comes up short in his quest for 3 WPT titles

The WPT Baden Main Event was a €3,300 buy-in event that attracted 254 players to the beautiful Austrian casino. Among the entrants were some of Europe’s best players and many regulars from the PokerStars European Poker Tour marked this WPT event as one to play on their calendar. Without competing directly against the WPT LA Poker Classic attendance for the WPT Baden tournament would have likely been much stronger.

Still, the Baden final table had one of the most intriguing storylines in recent memory as Party Poker pro Marvin Rettenmaier was looking to make history, and win his third WPT title, matching Carlos Mortensen and Gus Hansen for the all-time record. What would make Rettenmaier’s feat all the more noteworthy would be that all three wins would have come within the space of one year!

Unfortunately for Rettenmaier, his run would end in 5th place despite coming into the final table second in chips. Here is a look at the complete final table payouts from the tournament:

517 players register for the Season XI WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event

Attendance was down at one of the tour’s flagship tournaments, but it was still strong enough to produce a $1,000,000 first-place prize for the eventual winner for the tournament ($1,004,090 to be precise), and at just under $5 million this is the biggest prize-pool of the season for the WPT.

The biggest names in poker were in attendance, and heading into Day 3 there is still some top talent remaining amongst the 162 players still in the hunt for the WPT LA Poker Classic title: Scott Seiver, Justin Young, John Dolan, Eli Elezra, Ashton Griffin, Sam Stein, Dan Shak, Mimi Tran, John Hennigan, Robert Mizrachi, Lacey Jones, Tobey Lewis, Mohsin Charania, Phil Laak, Eric Froehlich, David Williams, Shannon Schorr, Noah Schwartz, Brian Devonshire, David Pham, Victor Ramdin, Jon Augiar, Brandon Cantu, Joe Hachem, Scott Clements, Dwyte Pilgrim, Jen Tilly, Jason Wheeler, Keven Stammen, Galen Hall, Jennifer Harman, Jeremy Ausmus, Ana Marquez, Prahlad Friedman, Paul Volpe, Dani Stern, Maria Ho, Liz Lieu, Carlos Mortensen, Nick Schulman, Lauren Kling, and Dan O’Brien.
