WSOP Circuit Series adds Championship Event
In an effort to remain competitive with the other poker tours the World Series of Poker Circuit Series has announced the creation of an end-of-the-year Championship Tournament, which will include the awarding of a WSOP bracelet. The tournament will occur at the end of the Circuit Series schedule –which ends before the World Series of Poker begins in late May—and will be an invitation-only $1,000,000 freeroll poker tournament.
Players can gain entry to the tournament by winning a WSOP Circuit Series tournament, or by accumulating enough points throughout the season to qualify. The 2010-2011 Season begins on August 9th, 2010, and concludes on May 22, 2011. The Championship Tournament will take place shortly after at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
WSOP officials are hopeful that the opportunity to win a bracelet, in addition to a shot at a piece of the $1,000,000 prize-pool, will attract more participants to the 12-stop poker tour; which has failed to live up to the lofty expectations that go along with the WSOP brand. The concept of a points leader-board could entice more mid-level pros to follow the tour and attend each event, instead of mainly attracting only local poker pros and a handful of big name tournament players.
