WSOP Notebook: HORSE FT, Booth keeps talking and more

Posted by Steve Ruddock on Jun 19, 2012 Posted in Poker News | No Comments »

I have a few big stories to get to in this installment of the WSOP Notebook, so I’ll forego the preview and the witty remarks here and get right to it.

Ivey and Hellmuth headline HORSE Final Table

I say this a lot (because it makes good copy) but in this case it’s definitely case; the $10k HORSE tournament had one of the toughest final tables you’ll ever see! Don’t believe me? Take a look at this lineup and how they fared in the event:

1. David “Bakes” Baker — $451,779

2. John Monnette — $279,206

3. Paul Sokoloff — $183,784

4. Phil Hellmuth — $134,056

5. Phil Ivey — $99,739

6. Abe Mosseri — $75,511

7. Matt Waxman — $58,093

8. Dan “DJK123” Kelly — $45,360

The above group contains six bracelet winners and a total of 26 bracelets (27 after Baker’s win).

Did Brad Booth really call someone out?

I’m pretty sure it’s time for Brad Booth to get some help, or as one forum poster put it, he needs to go to the poker version of celebrity rehab. Booth has been a shell of his former self (or at least the public image he had created) since being victimized by the Super-User scandal on Ultimate Bet Poker, culminating with the recent revelations that he had stolen some $30,000 from Douglas Polk, followed by a YouTube apology video where an emotional Booth apologized, vowed to get his life back together, turned himself into the victim, and finally settled on gambling to pay back his gambling debts.

Now Booth is back, Tweeting the following message to Phil Hellmuth while Hellmuth competed for the $10k HORSE bracelet on Monday night: “@phil_hellmuth I dont give a shit that your trying to win your 13th bracelet-u have a problem with me and it’s time we deal with it#publicly”

Later Booth tweeted, “@phil_hellmuth texted me, we are meeting up tomorrow” but it’s safe to say that the general consensus is that Booth needs some time off from the poker world –after he pays back his debts of course.

Negreanu details his 2012 WSOP struggles

It seems like it’s either feast or famine for Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu at the World Series of Poker. Over the years “Kid Poker” has won multiple WSOP bracelets in the same year (three to be precise) as well as winning the WSOP Player of the Year award at a separate WSOP, but he has also had years where he barely sniffs a final table, and the 2012 WSOP is shaping-up to be one of those years. So far Negreanu has but two cashes at the 2012 WSOP (although one was a 5th place finish in Event #4, the $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem tournament) and he used his weekly rant vlog to sum-up his 2012 WSOP thus far.
