Zugwat tops GPI Player of the Year race
On the back of his recent World Poker Tour Alpha8 win at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open tournament series, Steve Silverman (better known by his online screen-name Zugwat) has ascended to the top of the Global Poker Index Player of the Year leader-board.
Silverman has displaced Paul Volpe, whose torrid start to the 2013 tournament season saw him sitting atop all three major Player of the Year leader-boards, with the GPI being Volpe’s last bastion of defense, which means that if he has any designs on a POY award Volpe will now take on the role of hunter instead of hunted for the remainder of the tournament season.
Silverman was one of the most talked about online poker players during the heyday of the Poker Boom before he pretty much left the game to get his education, leading to all kinds of forum rumors about the online phenom. The truth of what happened to Zugwat can be found in this 2010 Washington Post article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/01/AR2010100105833.html
Silverman appears to have picked-up where he left off, only this time his success is coming in the higher-stakes higher-profile, world of live tournaments. Here is a look at some of Silverman’s recent victories and major scores on the live tournament trail from www.thehendonmob.com:
* 4th place in Event #18, $5,000 NLHE tournament at the 2013 PCA
* 5th place in the €10,000 buy-in NLHE High-Roller tournament at the 2013 EPT Deauville
