Jett latest female to fall short at 2010 WSOP
Dubbed the Year of the Woman, thanks to three impressive wins leading up to the World Series of Poker, 2010 was suppose to be a breakout year for the ladies, and while they have performed admirably they have still been shutout when it comes to bracelets.
Despite constituting a very small percentage of poker players, there have been a number of near misses thus far, and some impressive performances by women at the 2010 WSOP:
* JJ Liu finished 3rd in Event #9, a $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem tournament
* Julie Farkas (10th) and Melissa Hayden (13th) just missed joining Liu at the final table in Event #9
* Jennifer Harman-Traniello finished 3rd in Event #15, a $10k Stud 8 World Championship
* JJ Liu finished 7th in Event #23, a $2,500 6-Handed NLHE tournament
* Karina Jett finished 4th in Event #27, a $1,500 & Stud tournament
Unfortunately, the talk of the WSOP regarding women has centered on two controversies. First there were Annette Obrestad’s comments to ESPN the Magazine that “Women suck at poker”. And this was followed by the debacle that was the Ladies Tournament, which saw six men take to the tables in some strange form of protest.
With 30 events to go the women still have plenty of opportunities to win a bracelet or two, and there strong performances thus far should be an indication that women have definitely arrived on the poker scene.
