The PPA is finally moving in the right direction

After being very critical of the PPA’s reaction to Black Friday, as a lobbying group in general, and their efforts to pass online poker legislation, I have to admit that the Poker Players Alliance is finally starting to resemble a legitimate lobbying group in my eyes. Prior to Black Friday the PPA reminded me of the typical poker player, a bit over-confident, possessing a laissez-faire attitude, and overall a bit self-serving.

However, in the months following Black Friday the PPA is now sending out regular weekly E-Mails by Rich Muny detailing the groups progress on key fronts –Muny also stated three specific goals in his initial E-Mail to PPA members—as well as asking players to renew their PAID memberships or donate to the group. As any follower of politics knows, it’s a difficult undertaking to lobby Congress without money, and considering I have never received an E-Mail asking for a donation or to renew my membership ($20/yearly) these E-Mails are actually welcome –even though they are asking for money!

The new direction gives the PPA something it seemed to be lacking, which was professionalism. Perhaps now that the online poker component is off the PPA Board of Directors with the resignations of Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson, as well as the fallout from Black Friday to the industry as a whole, the PPA can and will start pushing a pro-player agenda, instead of their previous pro-online poker site agenda.
